Belief #1: If education is about the student learning then the teacher’s job is to help the learner grasp the content and concepts — not just to disseminate information.

Belief #2: Students come to education with various backgrounds, various aptitudes, and various attitudes. Backgrounds, and prior education experiences, cannot be altered, YET current and future aptitude (and attitude) CAN be improved. Bottomline – All students can learn.

Belief #3: 9th-12th grade learners are young adults and –more importantly — are people. They need guidance, reassurance, demonstration, explanation, repetition, and hope. Just like any adult.

Belief #4: The world can be harsh on adults. A good educator needs to help her young students learn how to succeed (and endure struggle), so the students will be prepared to be on their own in the future. . . It may take a village to raise a child.

Belief #5: Mistakes are essential to the learning process. Peter McWilliams precisely quips: "Mistakes show us what we need to learn."
